Painting Institute

Painting Institute was born out of a need and a commitment to painting. This project was initiated by Renzo Ortega, a painter based in Carrboro, North Carolina. For Renzo, it is essential to create dedicated spaces for the appreciation and critical dialogue of painting, since painting is an art form deeply connected to people's identities and the construction of collective imaginaries. Painting is a continuous loop of creation, a chain in motion, in which each painter is part of the craft's evolution and tradition, developed over centuries of experimentation, successes, and serendipitous discoveries. Painting Institute aims to contribute to the history of easel painting, our history, through curated, thematic exhibitions, currently in a pop-up format, showing a diverse range of pictorial expressions, and make it accessible to the general public.
